Principal Civil Engineer - Aviation in United Kingdom

My client is looking for a Principal Civil Engneer on a contract basis for a role in Sussex.

The candidate will be responsible for leading the design of new and rehabilitated runways, taxiways, stands and other airside infrastructure; working closely with the Principal Engineering Manager / Business Manager.
The candidate will be required to lead or fulfil a managing role within the design team to ensure that:
Guidance is provided for less experienced staff and professional development and training is actively pursued;
Good relationships with all external stakeholders are maintained to enhance the reputation of the company and the delivery of projects to the customer;
Compliance with all relevant technical standards; including ICAO, EASA, CAA and Airport specific Airside Planning and Engineering Standards; and
Delivery of all the specified project outcomes on time, within budget and to the quality required.

What will this role involve?

Managing a programme of design projects;
Carry out design of runways, taxiways, stands and roads; working with other members of the team as required, including electrical engineers;
Develop designs in accordance with the Client's requirements and relevant design standards to achieve cost effective solutions;
Assist in the development and supervision of project team members;
Prepare bid proposals
Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the budget for projects including the planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources and finances;
Prepare and check of options analysis reports, survey briefs, input into project health and safety files and other written documents as required;
Development of engineering solutions and presentation of engineering options;
Prepare and check of design calculations;
Produce and check design concepts, design details, drawings, specifications and other technical documents; and
Develop and maintain good working relationships with the Client and other relevant stakeholders.
Advise on buildability and operational issues

What are we looking for?

Chartered Engineer (CEng + MICE, CMIHT or MIStructE);
Minimum of 10 years post-qualification experience designing infrastructure projects including pavements and associated services. Experience of airport design work is preferable but not essential;
Computer literate and thoroughly conversant with MS office suite and relevant engineering software packages including AutoCAD and Bentley MX (desirable);
Good experience of leading the co-ordination of multi-disciplinary design teams including Electrical and structural engineers;
Good experience of the design of foul and storm water drainage, fire mains, hydrant refuelling and stand services;
Knowledge of ICAO, EASA and CAA regulations;
Good knowledge of airport operations;
Good communication skills dealing with clients, project partners, complex build integrators and supply chain.
