The Mechanical Engineer reports to the Team Leader Mechanical Engineering.
The organizational unit Research and Development is responsible for developing and implementing policies in the field of Research & Development to ensure that R&D objectives are fulfilled.
Research & Development has four areas of responsibility:
- Ownership of and design responsibility for the product specifications and related data, which comply international legislation and regulations with respect to quality and safety standards throughout the life cycle. Research & Development transfers product knowledge to the operational organization (Supply Chain, Operations, Product Management and QE) to enable the different areas to operate as independently as possible.
- Protection and expansion of competitive position of the organisation in close cooperation with Product Management by pursing legal options(certification, quality marks, patents and copyright).
- Product innovation through research and development of stair lifts and related mobility solutions in the (cross-departmental) project for the purpose of optimizing product portfolio, taking into account time, scope, budget and quality.
- Creation, implementation and monitoring of systems and processes designed to provide optimum support to the above –mentioned (across departmental) activities
Objective
Develop, analyze, assess and advise on designs for stair lifts or stair lifts parts as well as advise the improvements on the existing stair lifts or stair lift parts in order to reach the optimization. Your primary focus will be on quality and technical feasibility and your secondary focus will be on costing and planning.
Responsibilities
- Initiating product overhauls or improvements and translating user requirements into technical specifications
- Making proposals for concepts for new products or parts in order to create a functional model
- Developing concepts through to prototypes, providing support during the manufacturing process and testing the prototypes on the basis of defined criteria ( with awareness of applicable legislation and standards)
- Analyzing and assessing designs, functional models and prototypes using calculations, tests, available materials and tools , and writing reports.
- Working with suppliers to decide on the most suitable production method and best design by taking into the consideration of manufacturability and cost
- Advising on how to optimize products and processes based on analyses and research and providing conclusions
- Finalizing designs using technical drawings, doing testing and reading design reports
Profile
- Education: Bachelor or Master degree in the related field of Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design
- Knowledge of 3D CAD systems
- Knowledge of materials, (series) production techniques and complex mechatronic products
- Have at least 5 years related working experience
- Fluency ( oral and written) in English language
