9 uses of social media networks

The Top 9 Uses of Social Media Networks?

Despite our growing awareness of the time we spend online and how that impacts on our offline relationships, most of us use some form of social media and are connected digitally over several platforms.

We all voluntarily form part of an immense global online community and each of us have our own reasons for using social media, but the reasons why we use social media can be very different.

The top 9 reasons why people use social media sites

1. We may be in need of company and find it in our online communities.

2. We may be looking to extend our “real world” communities online, enabling further communication as a support to our offline activities.

3. We may want to use social media as a tool to find and reconnect with people we have lost touch with.

4. We may be living in an isolated location or just feel isolated and turn to social media for an alternative form of interaction, using it as another way to build friendships online
.
5. Businesses use it as marketing tool to spread brand awareness and their offers, they attract new customers.

6. Many public, private or government agencies use this great tool for news and awareness.

7. Many of us can often feel that we don’t have a voice or find it difficult to vocalize our thoughts and feeling face-to-face. Social media gives us all a voice, instantly. We have a forum to share whatever thoughts we have, knowing we will be heard.

8. Ironically, social media platforms provide us with the ability to control how much of us we want to reveal and to whom. Through the use of privacy settings we can be the guardians of our own experiences, ultimately choosing with whom and when to share them.

9. We all want to feel as if we belong and to a degree, becoming part of an online community, identifying our tribes and joining those groups gives us a sense of being a member of a club where we matter.

Every social media platform has developed its own unique identity, initially by design, to appeal to its target market. But as the statistics show, social media is no longer the preserve of the young or the technically minded. In fact Facebook has recently seen a substantial shift in its demographic with an increase in the number of older people starting to use the platform, which in turn is causing its younger users to switch away from Facebook to newer platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat.

Most of us interact with social media in some form and, as shown, we have our own personal reasons for doing so. However, the ways in which we use social media sites also vary enormously. Some of us love to create content, while others prefer to be passive participators and mostly browse through other people’s content, occasionally posting a comment or photo. Many people love to use social media as a forum to share their lives, while others use it for business. Each of us has our own unique way of using social media.

Despite its personal use social media has grown up to be a great marketing tool world has ever seen. Almost all of the large scale and small companies have maintained their social media presence.
